UPDATE: One dead, another critically injured in light airplane crash west of Calgary

EMS reported a male as deceased on scene while the other occupant of the plane, a female believed to be in her 30s, has been transported to hospital in life-threatening condition after a crash at a light aircraft airport west of Calgary.

One person is dead and another has been transported to hospital in critical condition following a plane crash off Highway 1 this afternoon.

EMS responded to the scene of the accident, near Springbank Airport, west of Calgary, around 3:20 p.m. 

A male occupant of the light aircraft was reported deceased on scene, according to EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux. The other occupant, a female believed to be in her 30s, has been transported to Foothills Medical Centre in life-threatening condition. 

The incident has closed one lane on westbound Highway 1 and is delaying traffic. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving in the area. 

RCMP are holding the scene at this time.
