The Lakeland Jr. B Heat lacrosse team strung together their best season in franchise history in 2015 marching all the way to the third round of the playoffs.
In their third season in existence the Heat established themselves as one of the best teams the province has to offer losing in the North Division final to the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels.
“It's a really nice feeling to be able to sit here and (call ourselves) northern finalists,” said the team's head coach Dennis Hodinsky on July 19. “The guys have really come together at the end of the season, we've been on a heck of a roll. Things have been clicking really well for us in recent weeks.”
The Lakeland squad went on a roll to end their season, streaking into the playoffs as winners of eight straight games.
In the first round they continued their dominant play piling up 28 goals in a two-game first round sweep of the Vermilion Roar.
“Everyone is peaking at the same time and doing their part,” said Hodinsky, after the first round win. “Our goal scorers are scoring, guys are setting picks and everybody is working well together.”
The Sherwood Park Titans proved to be a more formidable opponent in round two, but the Heat were able to squeak past them in three games.
The Heat's impressive run came to a close as the local squad lost to Fort Saskatchewan in the north final.
