Two people die in early morning fire in Trochu

TROCHU - Two people in their 60s were found deceased after being trapped in a home on fire in Trochu.

This morning, on Sept. 4, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Three Hills RCMP received a 911 call of a home on fire with people trapped inside, according to an RCMP press release issued today.

Three Hills RCMP and Trochu Fire Department responded to the residence on School Road, in the town of Trochu.

"Active rescue efforts were made, however two people were located deceased," police said in the press release.

Police identify the deceased as a 68 year-old male and 64 year-old female, believed to be the only occupants of the home.

Three Hills RCMP and Trochu Fire Department continue to investigate. Police say the cause of the fire is not known at this time.

"RCMP offer their condolences to those affected by this tragedy," the release states.

At 6:15 a.m., the Trochu Fire Department updated the community through social media that members were dispatched to the Trochu Mobile Home Park for a structure fire at 3:45 a.m.

"Fire crews are on scene and have the fire under control," the department's post stated.

At the time, the fire department asked that residents downwind (east and south) of the park, shelter in place, with windows closed, until the smoke subsides.

At 8:30 a.m., the fire department advised the shelter in place request was lifted as the fire had been extinguished and the smoke had subsided.
