Youth arrested in bear spray incident near Airdrie junior high

Youth charged in last week's bear spray incident near Ecole Airdrie Middle School where 37 students were treated.
Airdrie RCMP secured the area after human remains were found east of Airdrie on May 4.

Airdrie RCMP have located and charged a youth in relation to a bear spray incident near Ecole Airdrie Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

RCMP reported that the Airdrie youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Common Nuisance

The Airdrie RCMP thanked the public for their assistance in identifying the involved parties. Tips and information from the public were helpful in this case.

Airdrie RCMP are not looking for any further suspects at this time.

Airdrie RCMP, Fire and EMS were called to the school around 12:54 p.m. after an altercation involving a small group of youth who do not attend the middle school occurred involving bear spray.

A number of middle school students were outside during the altercation, stated the initial report. Students were not directly sprayed but 37 were treated on scene by emergency personnel and school staff.
