Saddle Lake Education Authority is seeking Educational Assistants for the 2025-2026 school year for both the Onchaminahos School (elementary) and Kihew Asiniy Education Centre (Jr./Sr. high school).
General Purpose of Position:
The Educational Assistant will work under the supervision of a nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, certified Teacher and/or School Administration. Will support the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, Teacher(s) and School Administration to maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing classroom environment that supports each child's academic, social, emotional, physical, cultural and cognitive growth and development.
Job Requirements – the interested applicant will have:
- A High School Diploma
- EA/TA Certificate or ECD Diploma and/or experience in related field
- Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
- Reliable transportation – Driver’s license is an asset
- Knowledge of the Cree language and culture is an asset
Responsibilities & Duties – (but is not limited to):
- Works with nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, one teacher or several teachers and/or paraprofessionals in the planning and devising special strategies and implementation of learning experience of learners enrolled in programs.
- Confer with nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist and teacher to provide feedback, verbal and anecdotal, on learners performance and progress.
- Assist the teacher in monitoring and assisting learners individually or in groups to reinforce learning material and skills.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for learners and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and non-violent intervention techniques.
- Liaises with specialized services members (e.g. Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist) and provides programming requirements under the direction of the teacher and the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist.
- Assist in the implementation of IPP goals and usage of adaptive devices.
- Provide support to learners in utilizing various education software, including virtual instructional support.
- Prepare, set up and dismantle bulletin boards, displays, centers, information and learners work areas based on themes of cree culture, cree language or classroom units.
- Perform minimal clerical functions.
- Alert the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, teacher or administrator to any problem or special information about an individual learner.
- Provide supervision of learners in buildings or other school areas and school-related activities (i.e., field trips, hall duty, emergency drills/lockdowns, at assemblies, in lunch and playground areas, or with school buses as required).
- Assist in the development of learners’ social skills.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behaviour and confidentiality of information about learners and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behavior Specialist, Principal, Vice Principal and/or School Admin. Assistant.
- Will bank hours for Fall and Spring Break.
