Saddle Lake Education Authority is seeking Educational Assistants for the 2025-2026 school year for both the Onchaminahos School (elementary) and Kihew Asiniy Education Centre (Jr./Sr. high school).

 

General Purpose of Position:

The Educational Assistant will work under the supervision of a nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, certified Teacher and/or School Administration. Will support the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, Teacher(s) and School Administration to maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing classroom environment that supports each child's academic, social, emotional, physical, cultural and cognitive growth and development.

Job Requirements – the interested applicant will have:

  • A High School Diploma
  • EA/TA Certificate or ECD Diploma and/or experience in related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
  • Reliable transportation – Driver’s license is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Cree language and culture is an asset

 

Responsibilities & Duties – (but is not limited to):

  1. Works with nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, one teacher or several teachers and/or paraprofessionals in the planning and devising special strategies and implementation of learning experience of learners enrolled in programs.
  2. Confer with nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist and teacher to provide feedback, verbal and anecdotal, on learners performance and progress.
  3. Assist the teacher in monitoring and assisting learners individually or in groups to reinforce learning material and skills.
  4. Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for learners and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and non-violent intervention techniques.
  5. Liaises with specialized services members (e.g. Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist) and provides programming requirements under the direction of the teacher and the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist.
  6. Assist in the implementation of IPP goals and usage of adaptive devices.
  7. Provide support to learners in utilizing various education software, including virtual instructional support.
  8. Prepare, set up and dismantle bulletin boards, displays, centers, information and learners work areas based on themes of cree culture, cree language or classroom units.
  9. Perform minimal clerical functions.
  10. Alert the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behaviour Specialist, teacher or administrator to any problem or special information about an individual learner.
  11. Provide supervision of learners in buildings or other school areas and school-related activities (i.e., field trips, hall duty, emergency drills/lockdowns, at assemblies, in lunch and playground areas, or with school buses as required).
  12. Assist in the development of learners’ social skills.
  13. Maintain a high level of ethical behaviour and confidentiality of information about learners and staff. 
  14. Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the nêhiyaw waskawiniwêw Behavior Specialist, Principal, Vice Principal and/or School Admin. Assistant.
  15. Will bank hours for Fall and Spring Break.
