SCHOOL-BASED SAFETY MONITOR

General Purpose of Position:

The nêhiyaw nâkatêyimiwêw School-Based Safety Monitor will ensure a safe and secure operation of the school environment. The position requires a caring aptitude and skill in working within a high-energy and demanding environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A high school diploma
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
  • A valid driver’s license and own transportation 
  • First Aid/AED Certificate
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Prevention Certificate
  • Security Training or experience – A definite asset
  • Knowledge of the Cree Culture and Cree language -A definite asset

RESPONSIBILITIES - (to ensure school safety procedures and protocol but is not limited to):

  • Will follow assigned tasks as requested from the school administration.
  • Will work collaboratively with all staff.
  • Monitor and document leaners behaviours throughout the day within the hallways, classrooms, gymnasium and other areas.
  • Take a daily count of learners in the classrooms and school.
  • Inform the appropriate personnel of ongoing leaners behavior.
  • Aid in supervising disruptive learners.
  • Will drive learners home as needed.
  • Have effective problem-solving skills.
  • Have a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Have effective communication and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma responsive education.
  • Knowledge of family systems.
  • Ensure safety measures are followed and adhered to in classrooms and school, such as ensuring learners are in designated classrooms, ensuring the doors remain locked and secure, etc.
