SCHOOL-BASED SAFETY MONITOR
General Purpose of Position:
The nêhiyaw nâkatêyimiwêw School-Based Safety Monitor will ensure a safe and secure operation of the school environment. The position requires a caring aptitude and skill in working within a high-energy and demanding environment.
REQUIREMENTS
- A high school diploma
- A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
- A valid driver’s license and own transportation
- First Aid/AED Certificate
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Prevention Certificate
- Security Training or experience – A definite asset
- Knowledge of the Cree Culture and Cree language -A definite asset
RESPONSIBILITIES - (to ensure school safety procedures and protocol but is not limited to):
- Will follow assigned tasks as requested from the school administration.
- Will work collaboratively with all staff.
- Monitor and document leaners behaviours throughout the day within the hallways, classrooms, gymnasium and other areas.
- Take a daily count of learners in the classrooms and school.
- Inform the appropriate personnel of ongoing leaners behavior.
- Aid in supervising disruptive learners.
- Will drive learners home as needed.
- Have effective problem-solving skills.
- Have a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Have effective communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of trauma responsive education.
- Knowledge of family systems.
- Ensure safety measures are followed and adhered to in classrooms and school, such as ensuring learners are in designated classrooms, ensuring the doors remain locked and secure, etc.
