Jasper National Park is known for its natural beauty, and that includes the many waterfalls you can visit! Below, we’ve rounded up five waterfalls, complete with tips to help you make the most of your explorations. These are just a few of the many falls you can explore, so if you love waterfalls, be sure to check out Jasper Tourism to learn more and to plan your vacation.

Athabasca Falls

Athabasca Falls is undoubtedly one of Jasper’s most famous attractions—and for good reason. Known for its sheer power rather than height, this waterfall roars as the Athabasca River crashes through a narrow gorge carved out of quartzite and limestone. The result is quite a spectacle. The falls are easily reachable via the Icefields Parkway and offer well-maintained walking paths and viewpoints.  Capture photos from the designated platforms, which provide safe yet close range views of the water. Stay in the designated areas for your safety.

Tangle Falls

Lesser known is the beautiful Tangle Creek Falls. Its roadside location requires very little hiking, making it perfect for families or anyone seeking a quick stop. Watch your step as the rocks near the falls can be slippery.

Maligne Canyon

Maligne Canyon is an entire experience, one that draws tourists from around the globe. This geological destination has one of the most dramatic landscapes in Jasper. Bridges allow you to explore the canyon from various vantage points. The interpretive trails provide insights into the canyon's history and geology. For an immersive experience, consider a guided tour.

Geraldine Falls

Geraldine Waterfall is a hidden gem. Tucked away in the backcountry, it requires a hike along a less-travelled trail.  Unlike the more popular waterfalls, Geraldine offers solitude and an off-the-beaten-path experience. The trail to the waterfall is steep and rocky, making it suitable for experienced hikers only.  Bring hiking poles and wear sturdy shoes for this trail and check local conditions before setting out.

Sunwapata Falls

Derived from a Stoney Nakoda word meaning "turbulent water," Sunwapata Falls lives up to its name. The forested areas near the falls make it an ideal location to relax and enjoy nature. Early summer is the best time to visit, when glacial meltwater enhances the waterfall’s flow. The rocks around the area are very slippery. Stay in the designated area.

Put a Waterfall Tour on your Summer Itinerary

Whether you’re looking for accessible roadside views or a challenging hike into the wilderness, Jasper’s waterfalls cater to everyone. Pack your camera, lace up your hiking boots, and set out to explore these waterfalls!
