We’ve rounded up a list of high-energy rodeos around Alberta that you can check out over the next few months.

Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede
When: July 23rd - July 26th
Established in 1887, the Medicine Hat Rodeo is known for its warm, hospitable energy. It’s a true crowd-pleaser. You’ll find all the classic events here, but what sets this rodeo apart are the extra touches: nightly concerts, a parade, and a fantastic midway with rides and games. Plus, there’s a great food scene with plenty of local vendors serving up the exact types of food you’re looking for during a day of sun and competition.
Rockyford Rodeo
When: July 25th - 26th
Rockyford might be a small town, but its rodeo packs a punch. Celebrating over 60 years, this event features action-packed steer wrestling, calf roping, and bull riding, complete with evening festivities that keep the fun rolling long after the dust settles.
Hardgrass Bronc Match
When: July 27th
Next, head east to Pollockville for the adrenaline-pumping Hardgrass Bronc Match. This event is all about bronc riding, pure and simple. Top cowboys face off against wild horses, making for a series of showdowns that will truly have you on the edge of your seat. If you love rodeos for the sport more than for the extra bells and whistles, this is where you need to be. You won’t believe the talent and bravery on display at this event. Bruce Stampede
When: July 25th - 27th
Over in Bruce, the Stampede takes centre stage. Known affectionately as Canada’s oldest one-day pro rodeo, it's expanded into a three-day extravaganza. While the one-day title might sell it a little bit short at this point, it shows that this rodeo has been going for decades, and it’s obvious. They know exactly what they’re doing. Enjoy chuckwagon races, saddle bronc riding, and barrel racing, plus, don’t forget the legendary pancake breakfasts and dances under the stars.
High Prairie
When: July 29th - 30th
The action continues up north in High Prairie, where you will find one of northern Alberta’s premier rodeos featuring everything from bull riding to team roping. High Prairie's laid-back vibe pairs perfectly with the edge-of-your-seat excitement of rodeo. This isn’t your costume cowboy rodeo; this is the real deal, and it’s a great event for anyone who’s in the mood for some authentic rodeo vibes.
Stettler
When: July 29th - August 2nd
Stettler Rodeo does it big, offering five days of non-stop rodeo action. With events ranging from bareback riding to steer wrestling, it's an Alberta tradition you won’t want to miss. After the competitions, stick around for live music, mouth-watering BBQ, and family-friendly entertainment. This event is action-packed, so be sure to clear your schedule and participate in as much as you can. Trust us, you don’t want to miss a thing.
Strathmore
When: August 1st - 4th
This event is renowned for its comprehensive schedule, featuring a variety of rodeo events and its famous “Running With The Bulls” event, where cowboys demonstrate their bravery. It’s one of the few places in North America where you can experience this Spanish tradition. This is one for the bucket list, yet it has somehow managed to maintain a bit of an underground vibe, making it even cooler. Strathmore Stampede offers a blend of excitement and community spirit, complete with a Cowboy Cabaret, making it a must-visit on your rodeo circuit.
North Peace Stampede
When: August 1st - 3rd
Heading further north, Grimshaw welcomes rodeo fans for the North Peace Stampede. This event features some of Alberta's best cowboys and cowgirls competing fiercely in the sport they love. Many of them have trained their whole lives for competitions like these, and it's truly a privilege to see them in action. It's a community favourite, blending fierce competition with small-town charm.
Valleyview Crocus Hill Stampede
When: August 8th - 10th
We’re sticking around in Alberta’s north for the Valleyview Crocus Hill Stampede. A smaller rodeo, yet no less thrilling, Crocus Hill Stampede offers a full slate of rodeo competitions and a focus on local talent. It’s a fantastic way to check out some of the rising stars in the rodeo world and enjoy a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. These dedicated and passionate athletes are sure to go places, so you get the opportunity to say you saw them before they were famous.
Pincher Creek
When: August 14th - 17th
Nestled in the scenic foothills of southern Alberta, the Pincher Creek Pro Rodeo is an excellent opportunity to check out the thrill of the rodeo. The surrounding area's natural beauty provides a stunning backdrop of rolling hills and wide-open Alberta skies. Along with rodeo events, the community's enthusiasm is contagious. Pincher Creek offers a mix of traditional rodeo events and local festivities, making it an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Lethbridge
When: August 21 - 23rd
Later in the summer, the city of Lethbridge hosts its annual rodeo event. Expect top-tier performances in barrel racing, tie-down roping, and bull riding. With plenty of local food vendors and live entertainment, it’s a fun-filled weekend for rodeo enthusiasts and families alike. An ideal combo of rural Alberta charm with some urban vibes, you really can’t go wrong with this event.
Okotoks
When: August 22 - 23rd
The Okotoks Pro Rodeo is best known for its family-friendly environment and top-notch rodeo action. Located just south of Calgary, at the Millarville Race Track, it’s easily accessible and offers a great mix of rodeo events and local entertainment. The atmosphere is lively, and there is plenty of action to keep everyone entertained. If you’ve never had a chance to visit this iconic venue, we can’t think of a better opportunity.
Cochrane Rodeo
When: August 29th - September 1st
Held over the September long weekend, the Cochrane Rodeo is a fantastic way to wrap up the last long weekend of summer. This event is renowned for its world-class rodeo and small-town feel. The scenic town of Cochrane provides a beautiful backdrop, and the true spirit of the rodeo comes alive. It’s packed with fun and excitement that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Olds
When: September 11th - 13th
As the season winds down, make your way to Olds. Known for its friendly atmosphere, the Olds Rodeo, also known as Oldstoberfest offers competitive events alongside fantastic food stalls, lively music, and a welcoming community vibe. It’s a perfect way to cap off the summer rodeo circuit.
Canadian Rodeo Finals
When: October 1st - 4th
Finally, all roads lead to Edmonton for the grand finale—the Canadian Rodeo Finals. Here, the best of the best compete for national titles. It’s an electrifying event filled with high stakes, incredible athleticism, and the spirit of Western tradition.
