Whether you’re from Alberta, just passing through, or planning a trip to the area for the first time ever, you are making a big mistake if you don’t include a visit to Jasper on your itinerary. Jasper is, and has always been, a globally recognized designation in the province, the country, and even the world. From the awe-inspiring mountain terrain to the sparkling lakes, the adorable town to the friendly community, it isn’t hard to see the allure.
Tragically, in the summer of 2024, the town of Jasper and much of the surrounding area were devastated by wildfire. Homes, businesses, and much of that beloved landscape were damaged if not lost entirely. While the community has shown their resilience in countless ways, this special place needs support, and that’s why we’d like to share some of the countless reasons that you should visit Jasper this summer and show the community the love it deserves.

Spend the Night in Nature
When summer hits, there’s no better way to soak it all in than by sleeping under the stars. Jasper National Park is one of the best places in the country to do just that. Whether you're planning a quick overnight or a full outdoor escape, the park offers an incredible variety of campgrounds to match any comfort level or adventure style.
Start your planning with the Parks Canada website, which features an interactive map showing current conditions, closures, and alerts. While some campgrounds may still be closed early in the season, more are opening as summer unfolds.
The beauty of camping in Jasper is the freedom to choose your experience. If you prefer to drive in and set up camp with all the comforts, Jasper has plenty of front country campgrounds with easy access and amenities. If you are craving something more remote, the park also offers a collection of back country sites, each providing a deeper connection to the wild. From quiet lakeshores and alpine meadows to waterfall-lined trails and mountainside escapes, these sites deliver unforgettable scenery and solitude.
No matter your style, check conditions, do your research, and book early. Jasper’s campgrounds fill up fast, and for good reason.
Explore Nearly 2,000 Lakes
Jasper National Park is home to an incredible 1,762 lakes, making it one of the most lake-rich areas in Western Canada. This abundance means endless opportunities to explore, unwind, and connect with nature in all its beauty.
Each lake in Jasper offers something different. Pyramid Lake, just minutes from town, is known for its peaceful waters and scenic island. Medicine Lake fascinates visitors with its disappearing waters, which vanish each fall through a complex underground drainage system. Horseshoe Lake is a local favourite, perfect for cliff jumping or a refreshing swim. Lake Edith and Lake Annette are two of the most popular summer spots, offering calm, turquoise waters and space to paddle, picnic, or just relax.
Despite the impact of the 2024 wildfire, many of Jasper’s most iconic lakes remain untouched and just as stunning as ever. Some shimmer with bright blue hues, others are so still they reflect the mountains like glass. A few are perfect for swimming, others are ideal for paddling or simply enjoying the silence.
With so many lakes waiting to be discovered, Jasper offers a true sense of wild, water-filled wonder. All you have to do is get out there.
Chase Some Waterfalls
One of Jasper’s biggest claims to fame is its endless array of jaw-droppingly beautiful hiking trails. The best part about hiking here is the sheer variety. Whether you're after a quick trail with a rewarding view, a full-day adventure to really stretch your legs, or a multi-day backcountry journey, Jasper National Park has something for everyone. Many trails are open year-round, with even more becoming accessible as the weather warms up.
If you’re anything like us, you want to be rewarded for your hard work along the way. That’s why we suggest choosing a hike that features a waterfall at the end or along the route. Some of our top picks include Sunwapta Falls, Athabasca Falls, Maligne Canyon, and Stanley Falls. These are all accessible during the warmer seasons and offer unforgettable views, soothing sounds, and the kind of payoff that makes the hike that much sweeter.
There’s really no wrong choice when it comes to hiking in Jasper. Take a bit of time to research your options, pick the trail that suits your group best, and lace up your boots for a truly unforgettable adventure.

See Jasper From a Whole New Angle
If you are looking to take in Jasper from an entirely new vantage point, the Jasper SkyTram should be right at the top of your list. Now open for the 2025 season, the SkyTram takes you up the side of Whistlers Mountain, just a quick 10 minute drive from town.
It is the highest and longest aerial tramway in Canada, and it gives you views that photos honestly do not do justice. As you ride up, the world stretches out beneath you; the town of Jasper, turquoise lakes, winding rivers, and a full sweep of mountain peaks as far as the eye can see. Once you are at the top, you can stay and explore the alpine trails, grab a snack at the summit café, or just soak in the views. You can even hike to the true summit if you are feeling up for a little adventure.
It is one of those experiences that makes you feel small in the best way, and it offers a whole new appreciation for how wild and beautiful Jasper really is.

Stargazing in Jasper’s Dark Sky Preserve
If you have never seen the Milky Way with your own eyes, Jasper is the place to do it. As the world’s largest accessible dark sky preserve, Jasper National Park offers some of the clearest and most awe-inspiring night skies on the planet.
One of the best ways to experience the cosmos is with a visit to the Jasper Planetarium, located at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. They offer nightly programs that start inside their 40-seat domed theatre and continue outside with telescope experiences, where you can view planets, galaxies, and even hold a meteorite.
For a more personal adventure, head out to spots like Pyramid Island, Old Fort Point, or Jasper Lake. These areas are easily accessible and offer stunning views of the night sky.
Whether you are a seasoned astronomer or just looking to experience the wonder of a star-filled sky, Jasper’s dark skies provide an unforgettable backdrop. Just remember to dress warmly, bring a flashlight, and let your eyes adjust to the darkness for the best experience.
