ST. PAUL - The Centerfield Music Festival has been postponed another year due to the ongoing pandemic.

Organizers made the announcement today regarding the St. Paul-based event that would have seen a list of country music artists performing at the Jaycee ball diamond, including the area's own Brett Kissel.

"After careful and ongoing consideration, we have arrived at the decision that the fifth anniversary of Centerfield Music Festival will have to wait another year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and current health restrictions and crowd-gathering protocols in place in the province of Alberta," reads a statement from organizers.

The decision was made because it is "the safest path forward to ensure the safety of our guests, our artists, and our staff – which has been and remains our number one priority."

Uncertainties around new variants of the virus, vaccination rollouts, the undetermined timeline of government mandated restrictions, and the necessity to prevent any spread of the virus in the community have contributed to this "gut-wrenching, but necessary decision."

Organizers are confident that people will be able to come together and celebrate on June 17 and 18, 2022.

"We are sure looking forward to it and can’t wait to bring the show that we’ve all come to love and to expect back to the Lakeland."

Tickets purchased will be automatically honoured for the new dates. Requests for refunds based on date or other conflicts that prevent attendance will be accepted until April 30, 2021.

"The health and safety of our citizens, our visitors, the artists, and all parties involved in an event of this magnitude is of the utmost importance... and that remains at the forefront of this decision. We are all continuing to face an unfortunate reality, but support this direction and look forward to a full-on festival in 2022," says Town of St. Paul Mayor Maureen Miller.

Additional event information will become available in the coming weeks and months at www.centerfieldmusicfestival.com, and via social media. Questions can be directed to [email protected]

"We would also like to continue sharing our support and appreciation for all medical, front-line, and essential workers that continue to be steadfast in the face of this global pandemic," reads the statement from organizers.

"We will be back in 2022 and look forward to an incredible weekend of music and celebration. We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we work towards ensuring that we can do just that."
