LAKELAND – The Northeast Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (NEASAA) concluded its 1A/2A and 3A/4A golf zone championships in September.

The 1A/2A golf zone tournament was hosted in Mundare on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Meanwhile, the 3A/4A golf zone was hosted in Lloydminster on Sept. 19.

1A/2A Golf Zone

Cory Kokotailo, Canadian Certified Athletic Administrator, and the Director of Athletics and Physical Education in Lamont High School, helped organize the 1A/2A golf zones tournament. Kokotailo told Lakeland This Week that the tournament was a success.

“The day was beautiful. A small frost delay in the morning kept the kids off the range until 9 a.m.,” stated Kokotailo. A total of 94 golfers completed in the tournament, which include 32 girls “which was almost double the last time we hosted in 2019,” he explained.

“So, it’s great to see the growth in high school girls golf,” said Kokotailo. He added, “Lamont High wishes to offer congratulations to École Notre Dame High School for winning both the boys and girls team competitions.”

Winning the 1A/2A girls NEASAA zone banner was Notre Dame High School from Bonnyville. Two Hills School finished in second place, and Mallaig School finished in third at the zone championship.

Winning the 1A/2A boys NEASAA zone banner was again Notre Dame High School from Bonnyville. Coming in second place was the team from Kitscoty, and tied for third place were the teams from St. Jerome's in Vermilion and Two Hills School.

For the individual competition, Notre Dame High School again showed up to win, with Sydney Parke taking first place. On the boys' side Aiden McGilvery from Ashmont School came in first place.

3A/4A Boys and Girls

The 3A/4A boys and girls zone golf tournaments were hosted by Holy Rosary High School in Lloydminster. Jason Almond, career counsellor at the high school, helped organize the tournament.

According to information from Almond, St. Paul Regional High School (SPRHS) won first place for both the boys' and girls' team events. Cold Lake High School came in second on the boys' side.

In the individual competition, SPRHS golfer Bryce Erasmus came in first on the boys' side.
