Bonnyville Pro Rodeo crowns winners

Snow, rain and cold weather didn't stop the cowboys from competing at this year's Bonnyville Pro Rodeo this past weekend. Steer wrestling champion Brock Butterfield from Ponoka took home the single largest cash prize of the weekend.

Steer wrestling champion Brock Butterfield from Ponoka took home the single largest cash prize of the weekend. Taking down his steer in 4.4 seconds equalled $2,248 for Butterfield. Utah native Clint Robinson placed second, finishing two tenths of a second behind Butterfield.

In the team roping competition, Matt Fawcett of Stettler and Dale Skocdopole of Big Valley garnered the top time at 5.7 seconds. The Alberta duo took home $4,021 for their efforts.

In the saddle bronc, Todd Herzog of Penhold riding Franklin Rodeo's Scottish Sail scored an 83, good enough for first place and a cash prize of $1,336.

Alan Dacyk captured the top score in bareback with an 82.5. The Worsley native, riding Franklin's Scotch on the Rocks, earned $1,096.

The bull riding competition saw Scott Schiffner of Strathmore, riding Franklin Rodeo's # 600 bull, top all comers with a score of 86. The score won Schiffner $1,368. Seth Glause placed second with a score of 82.

In tie-down roping, Washington State's Tyson Durfey edged out Adam Gray by one tenth of a second. Durfey took home $1,773 for the victory.

Ladies barrel racing saw another close competition as Traci MacDonald of Erskine narrowly edged out Kaylee Blair, potting $1,365 for the win.

Novice saddle bronc saw Bonnyville's own Royden Griffith place second behind Tyler Wilson of Meadow Lake, Sask.

In the novice bareback Cole Goodine of Carbon, Alta. placed first.
