LAC LA BICHE - Game two of the best-of-three gold medal finals between the Wildcats junior varsity volleyball squad from Bonnyville's École Notre Dame and the all Grade 9 host team J. A. Williams Sharks went through six match points to determine the winner.

Winning the first game in the best-of-three set final of the annual mini Wow Pow tournament hosted in Lac La Biche by the J. A. Williams High School teams, the Wildcats were put to the test as the scores in the final 10 minutes of the game see-sawed back and forth for a winner. The final score was 31-29 for the Wildcats, securing the win and the championship.

The young JAWS team was congratulated by applause and cheers from local and visiting spectators. The other girls' team from JAWS, the Grade 9 and 10 junior varsity team, was knocked out of playoffs by the Grade 9 squad in the semi-final round.

JAWS boys win gold, Plamondon silver

While the Grade 9 girls team finished with silver, the JAWS boys junior varsity team made up of Grade 9 and 10 athletes swept the tourney, beating the boys' team from École Plamondon in the best of three-set final.

The mini Wow Pow tournament drew five boys teams and eight girls' teams to the JAWS courts at Lac La Biche's Bold Center fieldhouses. Teams came from Aurora Middle School, École Plamondon, Cold Lake High School, Assumption, Cold Lake Junior High, Bonnyville Composite and Notre Dame.

The tournament is the lead up to next weekend's annual Wow Pow tournament that features senior high school teams competing for the title. Games for the Wow Pow tournament begin next weekend at the Bold Center courts. More than 30 teams are expected to be represented.
