The Northeast Alberta Track and Field Club will present the 11th annual Rodeo Mile Road Race and the fourth annual Quarter Mile Fun Run for Kids on Sept. 1 to kick off this year’s rodeo parade.

The Rodeo Mile Road Race will be held across six categories, open male and female, masters male and female (40 years and older), as well as unisex juniors (born in 1993 or 1994), youth (born in 1995 or 1996), midget (born in 1997 or 1998) bantam (born in 1999 or 2000) and pee wee (born 2001 and thereafter).

Every runner will receive a race T-shirt, and the first three male and three female athletes across all categories will be awarded cash prizes. There will be $200 for the winner, $150 for runners up and $100 for third place. Gold medals will also be awarded to the winner of each category.

As an added bonus, the first male and female to break the course records, set by Ian Manyfingers at a time of 4:31 and Jennifer Kemp at 5:18, will receive an extra $200.

The Quarter Mile Fun Run for Kids will be open to all children aged nine and under. Each finishing athlete in the Fun Run will be awarded a ribbon, with medals going to the first place boy and girl.

Westlock-St. Paul MP Brian Storseth will act as the starter for both races. The Fun Run will begin at 10 A.M. in front of Ideal Carpets, and the Rodeo Mile will begin at 10:15 a.m. near the corner of 44th St. and 50th Ave. Both races will conclude at the UFO landing pad.

The entry fee for the Rodeo Mile is $30, and the Fun Run is $5. Entry forms for both races can be obtained at the Associated Medical Clinic and St. Therese Health Centre.

Late entries for the Rodeo Mile can be submitted at the Super 8 hotel on Aug. 31 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., or on the morning of the race between 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. for a fee of $40. Entries for the Fun Run can be submitted until 9:45 a.m. on race day at the UFO landing pad.
