David Buryn, the lead for his team in the Zarowny Motors Superleague, says one of the best part of the team being the champions of Division A during last weekend’s curling playoffs was the chance to have fun together.

The team, sponsored by Evergreen Stationers, also went into the playoffs with 11 wins and one loss for the season, which gave the team their edge, explained Buryn.

Buryn, together with his teammates, Gerald Looy, who plays skip, Greg Desaulniers, second, and Henry Desaulniers, third, beat out Gerry Jean and his team, sponsored by Coldwell Banker Cartier Realty, 5 – 2, on Sunday afternoon to take first place.

“It just came down to the end there,” commented Jean, the skip for his team, on the game against Evergreen Stationers, adding, “They made some shots and we didn’t.”

The game between both teams was tied till the sixth end, but Jean’s team missed on one of their plays, explained Jean. “We missed ours so they got their two points, and it turned the whole game around.”

Thirteen teams participated in the tournament, which was sponsored by Zarowny Motors, said David Warholik, president of the league and avid curler for 14 years.

“We can only take 13 teams because that was all that we can fit on a single draw,” explained Warholik, adding that there were more teams interested in joining the league for next year’s tournament.

Warholik also said all the teams displayed “great curling and were competitive.”

In Division B, Skip Dan Bojarski and his teammates, Jamie Robinson, lead, Paul Kunnas, second, and Floyd Kunnas, rounding off as third, were the winners in their game against Darrell Kuzma and his team, Xtreme Oilfield Technology.

The final score in the game was 7 – 3, in favour of Bojarski’s team.

“The competition curled well, and they beat us once … and as it worked out, we met them again and beat them the second time,” said Floyd Kunnas on his team’s win in the division.

“Everyone enjoyed the spiel,” Kunnas said, adding, “And we appreciate the support of everyone who are members of the club, and those who came out to watch.”
