Bonnyville's Tanner Boser is the new heavyweight champion of Unified MMA.

Boser, who is 6-0 in his young mixed martial arts career, was back in the octagon on Sept. 26 in Edmonton to take on Jordan Tracy for a chance at the Alberta title.

"He is definitely the best fighter I have fought so far. This was my hardest fight," said Boser.

"I felt like I won the first two rounds and I finished him in the third, but they were close rounds. He hit me a lot of times, I hit him a lot of times. He was really strong and really tough."

Boser trains out of the Hayabusa club in St. Albert. He has been training full time for the past year, which he felt allowed him to hang in there with Tracy before finishing him off for the title.

"In the first round he took me down pretty quickly and I scrambled back up against the cage. He hit me with some bombs against the cage that had me rocked," said Boser. "I came back from that. It was the worst part of the fight for me, but I was never close to being finished."

The fight saw a large contingent of local fans make the trip down to Edmonton to support Boser. Something he appreciates very much.

"(The local support) is awesome. This fight I sold 120 tickets total and most were from Bonnyville and area. Guys are coming out to Edmonton to watch the fights. There is a ton of support I get from the community. I have a lot of local sponsors," said Boser.

Boser, being just 23-years-old, never really expected to be where he is at this early in his career. In fact, he never really set out with any expectations.

"I never really set out with any expectations. I just like doing it and felt that I could do it," said Boser. "When I moved here to do it full time it wasn't so much for my hopes and dreams, it was because I liked doing it and I thought I could scrape by and do it. I don't want to get a real job."

Although he is the heavyweight champion, Boser has also fought at light heavyweight and is unsure what weight class he will continue to fight in. With the title belt now around his waist, he knows he will have to fight whomever they put in front of him, no matter the weight class.
