People may find it difficult to shed extra pounds gained over the Christmas and New Year's break but a couple of physical programs are on offer to motivate people to get fit in the coming months.
The first one is a Winter Boot Camp offered by Kelli Ouellette, a national certified gymnastics coach, which starts Jan. 12 in St. Paul. Classes are on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the SPAN gym, and Friday mornings from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the Ukrainian Dance Club. The boot camp is also offered in Mallaig at the Legion Hall on Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“(The Winter Boot Camp) is a general work-out with weight-bearing exercises," explained Ouellette, adding, “Ninety-nine per cent of the things we do don't use any equipment."
Ouellette went on to explain that she will train participants of the program to do circuit exercises, which can be done by anyone. “There's no prerequisites … I show (the participants) everything that can be done, and they do it at their own pace."
Ouellette will also be offering Zumba, a form of dance aerobics, in spring. “It's like dance aerobics for a whole hour," said Ouellette.
Ouellette can be reached at (780) 645-9499 or at [email protected] for more information on the boot camp.
The second program being offered are Jazzercise and Pilates classes at the Silhouette Dance School Studio – Jazzercise starts on Jan. 18 and runs until March 22, and Pilates starts on Jan. 20 and runs until March 24.
The Jazzercise classes are on Tuesdays 8 to 9 p.m. run by Scott Maybank, while Raven White will lead the class on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. White will be the instructor for the Pilates classes, which will be held on Thursdays from 8 to 9 p.m.
Those who are interested are encouraged to register next Monday at Silhouette Dance School from 6:30 to 7:30pm, or contact Dianne Belanger at Silhouette Dance School at (780) 645-2661.
