GALLERY: Canadiens grab a win before holiday break

The St. Paul Canadiens remain at the top of the NEAJBHL, with the Vermilion Tigers and Wainwright Bisons working hard to catch up.

ST. PAUL - In a rare Tuesday night home game, the St. Paul Jr. B Canadiens took one more win before breaking for the holidays, beating the Cold Lake Ice 5-1 at the Clancy Richard Arena on Dec. 20.

Scoring for the Canadiens first was Logan Higdon in the first period, assisted by Lucas Martin and Treston Moisey. In the second period, the Canadiens kept up the pressure, with a goal from Noah Balmer, assisted by Brennen Riopel and Konnor Poitras. Poitras then scored a goal of his own, assisted by William Chemago.

The Ice responded with their lone goal of the night toward the last half of the second period, making the score 3-1 heading into the third.

Canadiens' Chemago grabbed the last two goals of the night, first on a powerplay assisted by Kurtis Labant, and his second assisted by Higdon and Liam Boyko.

The Canadiens are heading into the Christmas break sitting on top of the NEAJBHL. The Vermilion Tigers, however, are close behind with 32 points to the Canadiens' 34 points, so far this season.

The Wainwright Bisons are not far behind either, and have the chance to catch up to the Canadiens with two games left to place before the break - Dec. 21 and Dec. 23 - both against the Killam Wheat Kings.

The Lloydminster Bandits are in fourth place in the league, as of Dec. 21, and the Wheat Kings are in fifth place. Cold Lake, the Vegreville Rangers, and the Onion Lake Border Chiefs round off the bottom half of the eight-team league.
