Glendon brings home 1A banner at provincial track

Numerous athletes from local schools traveled to Calgary to participate at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association provincial track and field finals on June 8, and for the third straight year Glendon claimed the 1A banner.

Four of the 12 athletes Glendon sent to provincials managed to reach the podium across four events. Paige Skrypichayko picked up the school’s lone gold medal in the intermediate girls javelin throw and earned silver in shot put with a personal best of 10.66m.

Glendon’s Jayden Foley won a silver medal in the intermediate boys javelin throw, while Paige Lundgren and Rae Ann Noel earned silver medals in the 4x100m senior girls relay.

St. Paul Regional placed fifth among 3A schools with 163.75 points. Of the 19 athletes sent to provincials, three reached the podium with a combined four medals.

Nicole Kitt continued her dominance in endurance running with a gold medal in the intermediate girls 3,000m run and silver in the 1,500m, Jocelyn Laramee earned a silver medal in the girls junior discus throw and Chanelle Gange captured bronze in the senior girls 3,000m.

Among 59 competing 1A schools, Two Hills placed 13th, École Mallaig finished 18th and École du Sommet placed 24th, while F.G Miller placed 24th of 54 in the 2A schools division.
