Herb's an old-time shooter

Herb Erickson is almost 100 and still shoots more arrows than most people you know.
Nouran Abdellatif / Lac La Biche POST

According to the bio on the Lakeland Archers website, their oldest club member, Herb Erickson, was born in 1915, and has been shooting since he was a child.

Do the math. That makes him a walking encyclopedia with a century-worth of archery skills and experience.

The local club has named their outdoor archery range after the senior shooter and he shot the opening arrow at the recent National Archery Championships in Lac La Biche.

Herb has got some great stories. The Second World War veteran was active in the European campaign and he's lived in the same place since his parents came to the area more than 90 years ago.

He's got a great smile, warm eyes and still quite a steady hand when it comes to firing arrows from one of his many trusty bows.

Here's a bio of Herb courtesy of the Lakeland Archers.

If you want to find out more about Herb, head to the archery lanes one night and ask around for him. He might not be at every practice, but he won't be far.
