Indoor soccer season has kicked off with a bang. The teams have been playing all of their games out of town, and members of the executive can’t wait to get all the soccer teams into the Bold Center to start practising in the new year.

Al Bertchi, Facilities Manager for the Lac La Biche Junior Soccer Society, said he has received the pricing list from the county for bookings at the field house, and the executive board has given him the green light to make the call to discuss times with the county.

“We’re hoping to get two evening practises per week, starting in January,” said Bertchi. “We’ve only booked the school gyms until the end of December. I can’t wait to have the kids playing in the facility here. It’s going to be a pleasure to play in the area where they will be having games and adjusting to the size of a real playing field.”

Currently, the teams have played all of their games in Bonnyville and Cold Lake, and haven’t been able to host any home games in Lac La Biche.

Despite this, they’ve been practising hard and playing well.

Leo Shanks, coach for the U18 mixed team, said his team has been playing really well this season.

“They’re a regular Tier 4 team, and they play together really well he said,” adding that they’ve won two games and lost two games this season. He can’t wait for the team to have the opportunity to practise at the Bold Center.

“It’s going to help tremendously for us to be in the Bold Center,” said Shanks. “It’s going to be such a change from the little school gyms. We’ll be able to practise getting the ball out of our zone more efficiently. It will give us back that advantage that teams like Bonnyville have to practise in a larger venue.”
