ST. PAUL - A junior high badminton tournament for student-athletes in Grades 6 to 9 took place in St. Paul on April 13.

Gymnasiums at Racette Jr. High School, Glen Avon School and Regional High School were busy throughout the day and into the evening as tournaments in several categories wrapped up.

Eight schools entered a total of 216 athletes playing over 400 matches across the three gyms, says one of the tournament's organizers Kathleen Gerlinsky.

"The day started around 9 a.m. and the one gym ended at 8:30 p.m. [There was] lots of good competition and some great sportsmanship was displayed," says Gerlinksy.

The tournament helped prepare athletes for the upcoming SPAA competition scheduled for April 23 and,"To let them see what the draws look like and to experience playing opponents from outside their schools."

This week, senior high athletes in Grades 10 to 12 will hit the court for the St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) badminton championship tournament, April 17.
