Lac La Biche indoor soccer getting ready to start again

Among the dozens of organizations at the Community Activity Registration Event (CARE) on Fieldhouse One of the Bold Center earlier this month was the Lac La Biche Junior Soccer Association.

The CARE event was their first registrations for the upcoming indoor soccer season, the second takes place on Sept. 27 at the Bold Center.

League President Allan Robertson and volunteer Kika Mukuninwa, who has been tasked with taking registrations, were both at the Bold Center taking registrations, hope that they can build on what they had last year.

“Last year we had about 108 or 110 players,” said Robertson. “We’ re expecting 120, but we’ ll take as many as possible.”

Mukuninwa said that the league already had 26 early registrations before the Bold Center registrations. Many of those are longtime players who look forward to continuing with the sport each season.

“Every year there’ s new faces, but you need continuity in order to grow, for players to get better” he said.

The goals of the association are to have kids of all ages in as wide an age group as possible, in part so that boys and girls can play on separate teams. The U4 to U10 teams were mixed ages last year along with game-playing U16 and U18 teams. U12 and U14 had two teams, a boys and a girls team.

Robertson says there will be a number of new developments this year. The U10s and under will also practice in some of the schools rather than have all of the practices at the Bold Center.

“It allows more freedom for practice times,” he said.

Practices start on Oct. 16, while games are scheduled to start in the first two weeks of November. There will also be two out-of-town tournaments during the years as well as a league final in the last week of February.

Online registrations are open until Sept. 28. The link to the registration can be found here. Click the big red button that says "register."
