BONNYVILLE – Local athletes competing with the Lakeland Yellowjackets took home a handful of medals at the Tri-Province track meet that took place from July 22-24 in Sherwood Park.

Bonnyville youth Jordyn Skarsen not only set a personal best during the track meet that hosted top athletes from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but tied for gold in U18 pole vault.

Skarsen cleared a jump of 3.03 metre, increasing her best jump by almost 50 cm.

Track athlete Kennedy Carter earned two medals during the Tri-Province meet, claiming third place in the U18 High Jump category as well as bronze in Triple Jump.

Competing with the Yellowjackets in the U16 category, Kailey McInnes put in an impressive effort during her first time representing both the club and province in the outdoor meet.

McInnes came in 6th place for Shot Put and 8th place for discus while competing against the top youth in the prairie provinces.

Special acknowledgment was also offered to Yellowjacket athlete Isla Rose Henson who placed second in Open Women’s Triple Jump, however, that event was not part of the Tri-Province heat.

Competing in Open Women’s Long Jump, Henson just missed the mark, finishing in fourth place.
