Area cowboys earned some of the prize money at the first ever Glendon Rough Stock Rodeo held Saturday.

Kevin Langevin of St. Lina pulled in $940 for finishing first in the bareback competition. Langevin was followed by Peter Dyck in second, Billy Turner in third and Matt Crowe in fourth.

Jay Lewis claimed the $1,060 top prize in the saddle bronc event, ahead of Mark O'Dempsey and Colt Haymaker, who split second and third place money, and Clay Cresy in fourth.

Tucker Johnson and Patrick Houle each took first place and $893 in winnings as the top bull riders, ahead of Ryan McDonald of Cold Lake in third.

The event drew around 45 competitors, said Glendon Ag Society building manager Travis Alyesworth.

Inside the ring, the action also included everything from mutton bustin' for the youngsters to a wild horse race for the big cowboys. The latter produced no winners.

It drew participants from as far away as the United States and as close as St. Lina, Kehewin, Bonnyville, Cold Lake and St. Paul.

The event's proximity to rodeos in Saddle Lake and Cold Lake made it possible for cowboys to compete in several events over the course of the weekend.

Another one-day rodeo event has been planned for June 2011 at the derby grounds.
