A local hockey team wants to pack the stands with fans, and flood the ice with teddy bears for the area's women's shelter this Saturday.
Buy a teddy bear, bring it to the game and toss it onto the ice for charity. That's the plan for this Saturday afternoon's Lac La Biche peewee Clippers hockey game at the Bold Center. The game starts at 4:30 in the Swamp Cats arena.
Jason Houle, the coach of the Calnash Peewee Clippers says the teddy bear toss is to show the spirit of giving for the holidays, and he's inviting as many people as can fit in the stands to take part.
"People are encouraged to buy one anywhere in town and bring to the game," said Houle. "We will supply clear plastic bags for people to place their teddies in before throwing them onto the ice."
All the bears will be picked up and taken to Lac La Biche's Hope Haven Women's Shelter to be given to families using the facility through the Christmas season and beyond.
"All teddy bears will then be collected by our Pee-Wee Clippers and delivered to Hope Haven after the game by our players personally," Houle says.
The cue to toss the teddies over the protective mesh and onto the ice is the first goal scored by the Clippers in the 4:30 game against Lloydminster.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to give this holiday season along with watching a high paced Pee Wee Tier 1 hockey game," said the coach.
