Plamondon and Lac La Biche squads shine in big weekend on the courts

Just one weekend after the regional Wow Pow volleyball tournament drew high school teams from across the Lakeland and northern Alberta to the J.A. Williams High School, Lac La Biche and Plamondon teams were enjoying another busy weekend of bumps and sets.

Students from Grade 4 to Grade 12 were taking part in tournaments across the region last weekend.

Youngsters in Grades 4, 5 and 6 from Lac La Biche's Light of Christ Catholic School, Ecole Ste. Catherine, Aurora Middle School and Ecole Plamondon had an all-day Triple Ball tournament hosted at Light of Christ on Saturday. All competing teams earned medals for their efforts in the tournament what focuses on team-spirit and building foundations of the sport.

For the older players, the medals were also earned in a Grade 7-9 junior high tournament in Glendon. The Lac La Biche boys Aurora Thunder team came home with gold medal honours and Aurora's  girls brought back the silver medal.

In a replay of the Wow Pow weekend days before, the Ecole Plamondon Hawks senior boys' team came away with the gold at their home-hosted tourney on Saturday. Like the previous week's finals, the Hawks faced the JAWS senior boys in the finals. The Hawks were crowned the winners after three sets, winning the final set by two points in a back-and-forth battle.  The JAWS senior girls team finished the tourney in third.
