Chad Mercier has decided to leave his position as the Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs head coach and general manager, after seven years with the team.

Mercier made his decision to resign from the Pontiacs following the team's spring camp, which was held on April 5-7.

Although he has not officially filed his resignation papers with the organization, team president Don Sydora confirmed Mercier would be resigning and a new head coach and general manager would be named later this week.

Sydora said the team would be putting out a press release this week with further details, once Mercier and associate coach and assistant general manager Rick Swan return from vacation.

Mercier was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year in 2011.
