Over the weekend the Bonnyville Centennial Centre hosted a midget minor hockey tournament. Teams from far away as Edson attended the tournament, with the Edmonton Storm taking first place, beating the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the final.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs lost their first game of the tournament to Edmonton, but came back to win their second game against Edson. Late Saturday afternoon, Bonnyville played Beaumont in the semi-finals. Bonnyville came out hard against Beaumont, winning their second straight game, which sent them to the finals to face the Edmonton Storm.

The Sunday afternoon final was close and hard-hitting until the middle of the second period. After that, the game remained hard-hitting, but it was no longer close; Edmonton gradually pulled away.

Ten minutes into the second, Edmonton scored a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1. Then a few undisciplined penalties by Bonnyville gave Edmonton a two-man advantage, which they capitalized on, making the score 3-1 going into the third.

With a steady flow of players on both teams heading to the penalty box, there were several opportunities for the Pontiacs to start a comeback. However, Edmonton proved to be too much, scoring four times in the period, making the final score 7-1.

The Storm players and coaches were presented with the tournament's first place trophy, while a disappointed Bonnyville squad looked on.

Despite the loss, Bonnyville put together a strong showing at their home tournament, impressing fans with their hard work and competitiveness in each game.
