NEAT athletes compete at provincial track and field

With a number of athletes beating their personal bests, one St. Paul athlete also earned a silver medal at a recent provincial track and field meet.

ST. PAUL - The North-East Alberta Track (NEAT) club recently had five athletes compete at the Alberta Indoor Track and Field Championships - all of them in their first year with the club.

On March 4, there were two St. Paul-based athletes competing in the U12 boys category, both with strong competitions.

Jacyn Bodnar was competing in the 60m dash for his third time and had set a new personal best, breaking the 11-second barrier for his first time.

Caleb Martin was also competing in his third track meet of the season. He had a strong showing in all of his events, with a personal best in Standing Long Jump.

On March 5, NEAT had three more athletes competing - another one in the U12 boys category, and two others who competed in the U16 girls group.

Adam Swiegocki had set a new 40 cm personal best in long jump, and had a strong finish in a tough 600-metre race.

Maya Swiegocki was competing in her second race and had a great start out of the blocks, resulting in a personal best in her 200-metre race.

And lastly, Porscha Tomlinson had a challenging day in the U16 triple jump, but she managed to tie her personal best and come home with a provincial silver medal.

With the Alberta Indoor Championships wrapping up the indoor season, the track club will be shifting its focus towards gearing up for the outdoor season.
