The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs had a strong showing during the AJHL showcase over the weekend.

Two Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs were chosen as part of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) All-League Team.

On Tuesday, March 26, it was announced that forward Grayson Constable and defencemen Luke Albert made the north division roster.

"We're proud of what they accomplished as Bonnyville Pontiacs," noted head coach Rick Swan. "They made the most of their year in terms of trying to help this team be successful, and this is a real confidence booster for Brown and Holy Cross University knowing that they recognize that these two kids have a bright future and tremendous potential ahead of them."

According to Swan, the Pontiacs haven't had two players featured on the list in the same year since the 2014/15 season.

Those selected are chosen through a voting process completed by the general managers and coaches in the AJHL.

"It means a lot that not only we think a lot of them, but, the league thinks a lot of them as well. It's a great cap for those guys, walking away from Bonnyville knowing that they just weren't the best players on our team, but the best players in our league," noted Swan.

Albert described the announcement as a huge honour.

Luke Albert was named one of the players for the AJHL team.Luke Albert heads toward the net during a game against the Whitecourt Wolverines on Saturday, Feb. 2.

"I think I was a little surprised, because there's a lot of good players out there that deserve to be on that list," he expressed.

In 54 games played during the regular season, Albert had 12 goals, 35 assists, and 47 points overall.

"Offensively, he was incredible. It was a career year for him. Defensively, he was a guy that we had in every single situation and really he was a guy that ran our back-end," explained Swan.

Albert said, "I think it means a lot just knowing that I was well known throughout the league, and I thank the team and the Bonnyville organization for that."

Now that the season's over, Albert is gearing up for his spot with Brown University. He will be hitting the ice in the fall sporting a Bears' jersey.

Albert described Constable as "one of the top players in the league, one of the best leaders I've been around."

The announcement that he had made the team alongside Albert was an achievement Constable didn't expect.

"A lot of those names are guys that are top players in the league, respectively with points and whatnot. I just thought it was an honour and a privilege to be named."

Also on the roster was Grayson Constable.Lucas Reeves fights for control of the puck during the game.

Constable played 52 regular season games. He racked up 51 points, with 24 goals and 30 assists.

"Grayson is a 200-foot player that leads by example through his work ethic and he (earned) a career year for himself with the points that he achieved. He drove our team in offence. When we needed a spark, he was a guy that would take the bull by the horns and make a difference," explained Swan.

Constable said the Pontiacs are what helped him have such a strong season.

"It's nice to be recognized for some of the things that I did, even if it's not putting up an absolutely absurd amount of points like some of the other guys on that list. But, it's super nice to be recognized for a 200-foot game and hopefully, that shows guys that it's not all about putting up points."

He will be taking his spot with the Holy Cross University Crusaders next season.
