The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs kept their win streak going.

They bested the Lloydminster Bobcats on home ice and away during their match-ups last week.

“I think we’re evolving as a team, to try and establish an identity that we were struggling with for the first seven games. What I mean by that is we were so inconsistent from game-to-game that we forgot how we’re built and we’re built to play fast, so that’s team speed,” explained head coach Rick Swan. “That’s to allow ourselves to play smart by bringing our practice to the game and that’s also allowing that character piece to be attached to it.”

Pontiacs shutout the Bobcats

It was a 4-0 game for the Pontiacs when the Bobcats came to town on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Just 14 seconds into the first frame, Marc Benoit snuck the puck past Lloydminster’s goalie.

“It felt really good,” Benoit recalled. “It’s been a while, and I’ve been looking for that goal for quite some time.”

Pontiac Thomas Kramer added his name to the score sheet during the second, bringing Bonnyville’s lead to 2-0 before the period was through.

During the final period, Kramer found the back of the net two more times to record his first hat trick of the season and solidify Bonnyville’s 4-0 win.

“It felt pretty nice to finally start to put the puck in the back of the net a little more,” Kramer said. “I was just happy we were able to capitalize on our power plays.”

Shortly after Kramer’s final goal, Benoit was at the receiving end of a dirty shot at the hands of Lloydminster, which resulted in captain Joel Ray being ejected for a game misconduct and fighting.

“Joel just went straight at him. He’s a great leader, and he showed it right there by protecting me,” Benoit expressed.

Win streak continues

The Pontiacs travelled to Lloydminster on Saturday, Oct. 5, where they kept their momentum going with a 2-1 win.

It was Pontiac Jeremy Gervais who started the scoring off in the first, capitalizing on a power play with less than five minutes on the clock.

The Bobcats answered with a point of their own to tie it up 1-1.

Before the buzzer blew on the first period, what would be the final point of the game went to the Pontiacs when Kash Rasmussen added his name to the scoreboard.

The teams were evenly matched for the remainder of the frames, and the Pontiacs swept the Bobcats with their 2-1 win.

The next home game for the Pontiacs  is against the Spruce Grove Saints on Friday, Oct. 18. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
