LAC LA BICHE - The Portage women's futsal team came out firing in their first game of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Association northern qualifier — but couldn't maintain the lead, losing 3-1 to the Kings College Eagles.
The host team Voyageurs were up one-nothing in the first half of their weekend opener, but the Eagles clawed back, scoring the equalizer and then two unanswered goals in the dying minutes of the second half.
The Portage women are back on the futsal pitch at the Bold Center Saturday morning at 9:45 am. The Portage men's team play at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
The top three men's teams and top three women's teams from the six northern ACAC colleges at the playdowns will advance to the league futsal championships hosted by Keyano College in March. Games go all weekend, with the final game wrapping up Sunday.
