The Racette Raiders junior girls volleyball team picked up a banner Monday night at the SPAA Championships in St. Paul.

Racette faced off against Two Hills in the final at Ecole du Sommet, and the Raiders took down the formidable Tigers squad in straight sets to earn the 2012 SPAA junior girls volleyball banner.

The boys’ tournament also saw the Raiders and Tigers meet up in the finals at Glen Avon, but it was Two Hills that claimed the championship banner in two very closely matched sets.

After Two Hills won the opening set 25-20, Racette took control early in the second. Racette were hanging onto a narrow lead until the score reached 21-18, but Two Hills Coach Collin Kupchenko made great use of a timeout to slow down Racette’s momentum, and Two Hills rallied back to a 25-21 victory to earn the SPAA banner.
