ST. PAUL – Over the weekend, the CAP Arena and Clancy Richard Arena was abuzz with excitement as young athletes took to the rink during the St. Paul U15 Female Hockey Tournament held on Jan. 21 and 22.

Spectators were treated to a display of fast-paced action, precise passes, goals and saves as teams battled it out on the ice. The tournament brought together five teams from the Lakeland region and neighboring communities.

The teams are the following (in alphabetical order): Camrose Wildcats, Lakeland Jaguars, Lloydminster Blazers, Red Deer Sutter Fund, and St. Paul Canadiens.

Red Deer emerged victorious in the round robin without suffering a single loss. They clutched the gold medal against Lakeland after a sudden death shoot out.

Meanwhile, Camrose beat St. Paul 3-2 for the bronze medal.

"The tournament was successful and lots of games were played in two short days,” said Melissa Deschamps, who organized the event. “The kids had lots of fun and that’s what it was planned for.”

“We are very thankful for all the fans and parents who helped to make our tournament successful. Our goal was to get them on the ice having fun playing the game they all love,” said Deschamps.
