The golf gods looked down kindly on this year's Ladies Open tournament, providing 99 golfers with a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon at the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club.

Of the entrants, Joanne Schiller had the best day on the course, shooting an 82, and was named the 2011 Ladies Open champion.

Schiller, already a two-time champion at the event, said though it was not her best performance, she was certainly pleased with the tournament.

“It was a really good day. The course is in great shape. We had the best turnout I've seen,” she said. “My game, it went OK. It could have been a lot better, but an 82 with four penalty strokes, that's not bad.”

Other top finishers at the tournament include Jennifer Courtereille, who shot the overall low net score on the day. In the championship flight, Vicky Lamb was the low gross leader, while Pierrette Ducharme shot the low net score.

The first flight low gross leader was Karen Devereaux, while Jenny Bourassa shot the low net score. The second flight low gross leader was Joanna Gilkinson, with Irene Plourde leading the low net scores.

The team of Lillian Moiya, Rosaline Fitzpatrick, Janice Quinney and Melva Steinner shot the low score in the team scramble event.

Course manager and pro Randy Gallop said the tournament went really well, but he was most impressed by the high registration numbers and the event's actual turnout.

“Out of all 99 registered, all 99 showed up. It's unbelievable. The ladies work so hard at this and their hard work paid off with another great tournament.”

He added, “The weather was great, the course is immaculate. This was a great way to show off Bonnyville.”

After coming to the Ladies Open for the past six years and winning on multiple occasions, Schiller said this was one of the best tournaments she has been to.

“It was a lot of fun out there. We had a really good group and we even had a little competition going on between us. We were close the entire way. I think it keeps you a little more focused.”
