Soccer teams prepare for provincials as Lakeland season wraps up

The Lac La Biche minor soccer outdoor season wrapped up last Monday with a family barbecue and activities at the Bold Center Sports Fields.

Dozens of youngsters took part in the end-of-season party that served up hotdogs and beverages to the kids as parents returned team equipment bags and supplies.

Individual player photos were also taken at the event, and Lac La Biche County Recreation Department staffers ran the youngsters through fun drills and mini-games.

Medals and Provincials

The season was a successful one for Lac La Biche and regional teams. The U-15 Bonnyville and Lac La Biche combined girls team won gold at the recent Lakeland Cup and the U15 Bonnyville-Lac La Biche combined boys squad also struck gold. Both will be representing the Lakeland district at the Alberta Soccer Provincials in July.

The Lac La Biche U-13 boys team came home with a silver medal from the Camrose Night Classic tournament held at the beginning of the month. The Lakeland U17 boys' team representing the communities of Lac La Biche, Vegreville, Cold Lake and Bonnyville brought home the gold medal from the same tournament, allowing only one goal against them in four undefeated games.

The Provincial championships for the U15 teams will be held in Camrose from July 8-10.
