Portage Voyageurs ACAC Soccer

There was a little bit of good news for the rookie Portage College soccer team over the weekend.  Just a little.

The team managed to score their first goal of their fledgling Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference season — but still lost both of their games by double-digit margins. Another loss for the squad over the weekend was the absence of their high-flying goalie David Rodriguez, whose talents have drastically reduced what would have been even higher goal counts against the Voyageurs.

In his three games so far this season, Rodriguez has faced 50 shots on net, while the team's offence had generated just four shots on opponents' goaltenders.

In Saturday's game in Vermilion against the Lakeland College team, the Voyageurs were blanked 15-0. In Sunday's match with King's University, the Voyageurs got on the scoreboard with one in a 10-1 effort.

Sebastian Saviakjuk was between the posts for the Voyageurs in the weekend, games, facing 20 shots on net against the Kings and 33 against Vermilion. Ironically, the single Voyageur's goal scored in the KIng's University game was scored by the goalkeeper in a penalty shot at the very end of the second half.

In both games, the Voyageurs only managed two shots on opponents' nets.

The Voyageurs next game is at home against Lakeland for a rematch on Saturday, September 28. The game starts at 2 pm. at the Aurora field. The Voyageurs square off with the Concordia Thunder on Sunday in Edmonton.
