St. Paul area high school teams get medals at zone curling

Students from across the Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) gathered in Lloydminster Feb. 12 and 13 to take part in this year's zone curling championship.

LAKELAND - Students from across the Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) gathered in Lloydminster Feb. 12 and 13 to take part in this year's zone curling championship.

When the competition wrapped up on the ice, Holy Rosary High School from Lloydminster would claim top spot in all three categories, but several schools from the St. Paul area would bring back hardware. Students from Bonnyville and Cold Lake also took part in the curling competition.

A total of 21 teams took part in the event.

"The competition went really well through Monday and Tuesday at the Lloydminster Curling Club," said Nicole Cey, an organizer with the event. "We had great support from teams, coaches, parents and community members."

Cey added, the ice makers "maintained some great ice conditions with incredible finish," and the Lloydminster Curling Club went above and beyond to help make the event fun for the curlers.
