The St. Paul Canadiens celebrate an overtime win on Friday night. The team went on to win Sunday night also, and earned a spot in the NEAJBHL finals.

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Canadiens are heading to the NEAJBHL finals against the Wainwright Bisons, following a solid performance in Killam on Sunday night, and an overtime win at the Clancy Richard Arena Friday night.

After trading wins back and forth for the first four games of the best-of-seven series, the Canadiens stepped it up a notch, winning two in a row to claim a spot in the finals.

The Canadiens won 5-1 on Sunday night at the Killam Memorial Arena.

Reflecting on the series, Canadiens head coach Shawn Germain admitted the games could have gone either way.

“I can't say enough about that team. It was a battle from start to finish. A bounce here and there and that series could have easily been different,” said Germain. “We had some guys really step for us and we're going to need that again moving forward. I'm proud of our group and how we stuck with it.”

Nicolas Beaudoin, Matthew McDonald, Kurtis Labant, and Logan Higdon scored for the Canadiens on Sunday night, with Beaudoin netting two of the give points.

Now, the team looks ahead to what will no doubt be a battle in the finals.

“When you get together in training camp your end goal is to put yourself in this position. We understand that Wainwright is a very good team and have been for a long time, but we believe in our group, and we look forward to this challenge,” said Germain.

He added that the Canadiens will simply work on refining their game as they prepare to take on the Bisons.

The Wainwright Bisons beat the Vermilion Tigers in four straight games, wrapping up play on Saturday night with a 10-2 win over the Tigers.

A schedule for the finals was not yet available as of initial publication of this story.
