St. Paul Minor Hockey hosts back-to-back weekend tournaments

The hockey season is underway and St. Paul teams have been busy hosting tournaments at the Clancy Richard Arena and CAP Arena.

ST. PAUL - It was back-to-back wins for St. Paul hockey teams on home ice, as the U11 teams held a tournament Nov. 19 and 20, followed by a U13 tournament held Nov. 26 and 27.

On Nov. 20, the St. Paul U11-1 team claimed the top spot after a weekend of action at the Clancy Richard Arena, and the CAP Arena. The U11-2 team also play throughout the weekend, getting in some valuable ice time and experience.

It was a weekend of fun for hockey players and spectators, according to Amanda Lafrance, the tournament coordinator. Due to how early in the season it is, it can be tough to host a tournament since teams are still being tiered, she noted.

The following weekend, the two St. Paul U13 teams played host to teams from across the province.

On Saturday night, the CAP Arena was filled with fans as St. Paul's U13-1 team took on High Prairie. The game was a nail-biter, and was tied 2-2 up until the dying seconds when St. Paul scored on an open net, just before the buzzer sounded, earning themselves a spot in the finals on Sunday.

The team would go on to win the final game. St. Paul's U13-2 team also took part in the tournament, once again gaining valuable experience early in the season.

The hockey season in St. Paul continues to be a busy one with a U15 tournament scheduled for Dec. 3 and 4. And a U18 girls tournament set for Dec. 10 and 11.

January and February will be busy months for minor hockey in St. Paul with a list of tournaments scheduled to happen in a variety of age categories.
