LAKELAND - Soccer teams from the U13 and U19 age groups took to the pitches at the Lions Soccer Fields in St. Paul from June 16-18, working hard to grab this year's top spot in the Tier IV league, while also earning spots at the upcoming rural soccer provincials that will be held in Cold Lake.
On the U19 side, competition wrapped up on Saturday. Taking the top spot for the girls was Cold Lake, while the Vermilion-St. Paul team took silver, and both teams earned spots at provincials. The Vegreville girls won bronze at Lakeland Cup.
For the U19 boys, the team from St. Paul won gold, followed by Lakeland United winning silver. Both teams will compete at provincials. Grabbing the bronze medals were the boys from Vermilion.
For the U13 girls, Cold Lake battled for the top spot, and Vegreville came in second. Bronze medals were won by the team from Bonnyville. All three teams will head to rural provincials in Cold Lake. Also competing in the league this year were U13 girls' teams from St. Paul and Vermilion.
For the U13 boys, Cold Lake again won the gold medals. Taking silver was one of the Bonnyville teams (Jacob), and winning bronze was the team from Vegreville. All three teams earned spots in rural provincials.
Also competing in this year's Lakeland league was a second U13 boys' team from Bonnyville (Hanusz), a team from St. Paul, and a team from Vermilion, making for a competitive season for all.
Up next is the second weekend of Lakeland Cup action, which will be held in Vermilion from June 23-25 and will feature boys' and girls' teams in the U15 and U17 categories.
Tier IV Rural soccer provincials will be taking place in Cold Lake from July 7-9.
