The Saddle Lake Warriors clashed with the Thorhild Titans last Sunday evening at the Manitou Kihew arena, and the Warriors came out the winner by a score of 8 – 5.

The Titans got on the scoreboard first at 18:21 in the first period after a power-play goal by Landen Andreychuk. Twenty seconds after the initial goal, the Warriors managed to tie things up with a goal by Matthew Watson, with an assist by Cole Steinhauer and Jordan Moosewah.

The first period continued with the Titans scoring two unanswered power-play goals after the Warriors’ goal. Both teams would score one more goal each, by Jared Cunningham of the Warriors and Landen Andreychuk of the Titans, in the last seven minutes of ice-time to end the first period with the Titans leading, 4-2.

However, the second period belonged to the Warriors’ superb offence and more physical play, with four unanswered goals, courtesy of James Emmott, Jordan Moosewah, Keegan Daigneault, and Jared Cunningham. All four goals were scored in the last ten minutes of the period, putting the score at 6 – 4, in favour of the Warriors.

The Titans’ offence showed some bite in the third period by scoring their fifth goal of the game, which turned out to be their last for the game. On the other hand, the Warriors’ offence didn’t show signs of letting up and proceeded to put one in at the 3:22 mark, and another into the Titans’ empty net with 40 seconds left in the game to put the final score at 8 – 5.

Matthew Watson contributed to the Warriors’ seventh goal with an assist from Jared Cunningham, while Jordan Moosewah scored his second on the empty net.

“We played again good enough to win … we wanted to win, get the two points, and go home happy,” said Stan Olson, the Warriors’ head coach and general manager, after the game.

The Warriors will next face off against the Vegreville Rangers this coming Saturday in an away game at 8 p.m.
