Gordon Michael Babey, P.Eng., M.Sc., 71, of Edmonton, AB, passed away suddenly on June 3, 2025. He was born on March 1, 1954, to parents Michael and Mary Babey in Myrnam, AB. Gordon attended the University of Alberta, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Traffic signals and roadways design. He later completed a Masters of Science in Traffic Engineering and published his thesis in traffic platoon modeling. He married Marie and adopted Mathew,and they had two more children, Jacqueline and Laurence. Later, they divorced, but Gordon remained a loving parent to his children. Gordon had an exemplary career, in which he worked as a traffic engineer at Stanley Engineering (Stantec) and later at the Office of the City Auditor of the City of Edmonton, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service. Gordie was a beloved & supportive parent, mentor, singer, teacher, scientist, helper, traveler, guide, and friend and was always playful and ready and capable when called upon for help in challenging circumstances. He enjoyed teaching college-level courses in auditing and management, in addition to membership in various extra-curricular professional committees. Gordon is survived by his children Mathew, Jacqueline and Laurence; grandchildren Leanne, Boston, and Hazel; and siblings Lorraine, Hilda, Madeline, Iris and Beverley. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary and sister Leona. A Funeral Rite will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton with interment to follow at 3 p.m. in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Myrnam,AB.
