Doris Blaskin

September 19, 1945 – February 2, 2021

On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Mrs. Doris Bertha Marie Blaskin (nee Robinson) of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary surrounded by family at the age of 75 years.

She was predeceased by her brother Albert; mother Marie; father Zoel; loving husband Jim as well as many extended family members.

Doris will be fondly remembered by her daughter Lori (Alex); son Chris (Jody); grandchildren Keira, Eric, Allana, Adam, Suraya, Tianna and Tineisha; brother Guy (Debbie); sisters Lucille (Pierre), May (Lorne), Sally (Lawrence), Aline (Doug) and Joanne (Martin) as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was born on September 19, 1945 in St. Paul, Alberta. Her first job was as a cashier at the St. Paul Co-op. Doris married Jim Blaskin on July 2, 1966 and moved to Edmonton, Alberta. Jim received a promotion with Sears and they moved to Vancouver before moving around a few more times before relocating to Calgary. She started working for Eaton’s but had to take a leave once Jim became ill. After his passing she trained to be a nurse and felt she had found her true calling in life which was caring for people. After fifteen years working in healthcare she had to give it up because of her own declining health. She was always known to be there for the underdog.

Over the years, Doris was involved with the Kinsmen Club in Williams Lake and was awarded the “Kinette of the Year” in 1973-74 but her true passion was loving and living for her children and grandchildren.

Doris enjoyed travel to Las Vegas where she loved playing the slots, to Hawaii, later in life to the east coast of Canada and looked forward to her twice a year holiday with her Okanagan family. She also enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, was an avid reader, crossword puzzles, search words and frequenting the casinos in Calgary with son Chris.

An urn interment will be held at a later date at the Garden of Remembrance at Eden Brook Cemetery in Calgary.
