Hello Bonnyville. My name is Corrina Dickens, and I am the newest edition to the Bonnyville Nouvelle and Lakeland This Week. Having grown up in a rural lifestyle, I feel akin to the community and cannot wait to hear what stories you have to offer.
I am an avid equestrian, and when I am not with my horses you can usually find me in the garden or reading a book by the wood stove. I live on an acreage with my horses, chickens, dogs, cat, and my wonderful partner. I am passionate about sustainability and conservation, so being in nature is a big part of my life. Fishing, hiking, kayaking, and foraging are all activities you can find me doing on the weekend.
I brew my own kombucha, am learning to can food, and grow a fine cauliflower, if I do say so myself. I think there is nothing more satisfying than sitting down for dinner with loved ones and eating food that you have produced yourself, bought from a neighbour, or harvested from the land. I feel blessed to live in such an abundant place, where wildlife, forests, lakes, and even mushrooms abound.
I started writing in second grade, and my love of literature has never wavered. The poetry of Mary Oliver, the non-fiction of Robin Wall-Kimmerer, and the fiction of Eden Robinson are a few of my favourites, and I am always on the hunt for my next read.
I have always been captivated by the power of words and aspire to use my writing to be of service.
Landing a job with Lakeland This Week is a dream come true. My gregarious father, a die hard fan of BNN’s Fareed Zakaria, instilled in me a deep reverence for journalism, and my mother, a woman of science, rooted me in truth and curiosity.
Becoming a reporter felt like a natural fit. I look forward to serving this community and will approach my work with integrity and a heartfelt desire to tell your stories.
