Bring on the baseball

With local soccer success in the sports spotlight of late, baseball, the ultimate summer sport, has found itself somewhat overshadowed.

With local soccer success in the sports spotlight of late, baseball, the ultimate summer sport, has found itself somewhat overshadowed.

But that has all changed, as Bonnyville gears up to host the bantam tier I provincial championships at the end of the month.

I know this sports reporter is thrilled at the opportunity to spend an entire weekend watching live, high-calibre baseball on Bonnyville's brand new, yet-to-be-named field.

Although I did really enjoy watching the Blue Jays dominate the Yankees on TV this past Thursday and Friday, there is something special about watching baseball live and in-person.

A couple nice hot days in the sun, with some sunflower seeds and a comfy lawn chair will make for a great tournament. Include a field full of young talented ball players and you have the perfect summer spectator sport.

I have not had a chance to see our local teams in action yet this season.

But from what I saw last year and have heard from coaches this summer, there is a ton of talent in this town.

Perhaps this lack of live local baseball viewing has led to my apparent craving for the upcoming tournament.

If that's the case, bring on the baseball. I can't wait.
