Cheers to small businesses

It's Small Business Week, the perfect time to acknowledge the courage, hard work and dedication it takes to risk it all and open up a small business.

It's Small Business Week, the perfect time to acknowledge the courage, hard work and dedication it takes to risk it all and open up a small business.

You work the long hours, you sacrifice your social life for the cause, you live off Kraft Dinner or Hamburger-less Helper, if you're lucky.

You eat, live and breathe your business plan. You are the building blocks of our economy and our community. Without you, the oil and gas sector would have no Safety Watch, no one to clean and keep their coveralls safe.

There would be no restaurants testing out new and delicious meals, nowhere to buy our high-end fashions without driving to the city. No one to meet our pet's needs, help us with our banking, meet our pharmacy needs. Our feet would be bare without shoes, our hair untrimmed and uncoloured. We'd be forced to drink Bonnyville tap water without any conditioning at all. We wouldn't know where our meat was coming from or if it was safe to eat. We'd have to grow our own produce and harvest it too. We might even have to brew our own coffee.

So cheers to you, our small businesses, for making our lives better each day and keeping our community vibrant, strong and thriving.
