It was a close race, but after weeks of voting, Graham Campbell has been named the Bonnyville Nouvelle's 2010 Future Star of the Year and has won $1,000 for training and equipment.
He will also have his name added to the Future Star of the Year plaque located at the Nouvelle's office.
Graham is 14 years old and excels in many sports, including badminton and hockey – where he plays with the tier one bantam Pontiacs. Unfortunately though, Graham is currently out of the lineup with a fractured wrist, but plans to be back to Future Star form before long.
But for Graham, there is one sport in particular he loves and excels in the most and that's baseball. Graham is a budding baseball star and hopes to play college baseball after graduation, and possibly even play in the majors one day.
As a student at H.E. Bourgoin School, Graham is very focused on school, maintaining honours throughout his time in junior high.
While all 12 future stars in the running were invited to last Friday's game between the Bonnyville Pontiacs and Fort McMurray Oil Barons, not all were able to attend.
The monthly future stars include and we congratulate: Connor Moore, Lauren Popowich, Kurtis Nicholson, Grant Shyian, Jordan Harding, Ryan Dinn, Jonathan Cardinal, Matthew Church, Jeremy Fayan, Alanna Gagne, and Keashea John.
Each one of these young athletes has a lot to be proud of and deserves recognition for their hard work and dedication to not only their sport(s), but to school and volunteer work.
Bonnyville is lucky to have so many talented and inspirational young people living and contributing to this community.
The Nouvelle would like to thank the Town of Bonnyville, MD of Bonnyville and Lakeland Credit Union for sponsoring the Future Star of the Year grand prize.
The Nouvelle would also like to thank Scorpion Industries, the Centennial Centre, Subway, Broiler Steakhouse and Bar and Sylvestre's Source for Sports for sponsoring each monthly Future Star's prize pack.
The Nouvelle looks forward to continuing to highlight the talent and success of young athletes from this community. We also thank all members of the public who took the time to cast their ballots.
Congratulations to Graham and all the future stars.
