Consider change with county office hours

To the Editor:

County of St. Paul council has decided to close the administration office for lunch hour but has made no mention of an office hour adjustment that is currently from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., This leaves the question - are County ratepayers getting fair value for their dollar?

It is a must that County employees have a safe work place. With safety and fair value in mind and a new seven hour work day for the administration staff, who should pay the price? Without an adjustment to the daily office hours, are ratepayers getting fair value or is administration staff receiving a bonus? My question to County of St. Paul council is ‘Should the office hours change to an eight hour day or the administration staff’s salaries be adjusted to hours worked?’ Adjustment of administration salaries seems fair, and should be considered carefully by council before passing the next motion for change.
